Morse Code Friendship Bracelets

Friendship bracelets are AWESOME (at least I think so). In my eyes friendship bracelets can go in two directions: geeky or supercoolindiehippiewhateveritis. The latter is something I cannot produce because they have really complicated designs and I end up tying my hands together. So lately I have been thinking how to take friendship bracelets to the next level of geekdom (while still looking good) and I came up with the idea of Morse Code friendship bracelets. How cool is that? (I am pretty sure this idea is original, I have not googled it yet.

The bracelets spell out "best friend" in morse code. I packaged them for christmas with zipper bracelets which are super easy to make. I will post instructions on how to make these later.

DIY Holidays

I absolutely love the holidays. I love all of the delicious food, family, and of course, DIYing presents for everyone.
Obviously, as a teenager who does not have a job (yet), I don't have a lot of money. Not only are DIY gifts for the holidays inexpensive, they can be really thoughtful. My goal is to post at least one DIY gift that I have made for every two days until Christmas (and probably a lot of other holiday posts). Everything will be something I have made, but not necessarily all  my own ideas.

I made this bow ring for my friend, and I got the idea from I Spy DIY (I spend A LOT of time searching DIY blogs). I love it, and I am definitely making one for myself. The box at the top is what I wrapped it in. It says "I MADE THIS FOR YOU!!!" which is a reference to the hilarious Julian Smith of YouTube and to the fact that I actually made this. I feel like an elf. WOOOOOOOOO!

Leah Cohen; First Post

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with the author Leah Cohen. We had been reading some of her work in my Creative Writing class. She has written novels such as Train Go Sorry, Heat Lightning (she says she hates the name of this book and it personally reminds me of Grease), and a book that I got to read a bit of; The Grief of Others. Her writing is very strong (even though she is so quiet in real life), she has a brilliant vocabulary, and she was very inspirational to speak to.
She also has a blog called Love as a Found Object where she posts short stories, book reviews, etc. When someone in the class asked her about it, she said that it was her publisher's idea and she had thought that a blog was "self-indulgent". I think that a blog is a form of self expression and an opportunity to share yourself with the world. Once Leah Cohen found a purpose in her blog (she focuses a lot on her mother) I think she understood this as well. So I think that this was, although a lengthy post, appropriate for my first post.

AND NOW . . . An Awkward Photo brought to you by my first post to a blog EVER.
